Coastguard Boating Education

Coastguard Boating Education is New Zealand's largest provider of boating courses, particularly the Day Skipper and Boatmaster Courses. They wanted a new ecommerce website that enabled boat and water craft owners of all abilities to quickly find the most appropriate boating course for them, and then book and pay online.

The challenge we faced is that few new boat and water craft owners know which course they need to take and it's fair to say that many hours of deliberation and several meetings went into the design and structure of the course selection page - http://www.boatingeducation.org.nz/courses/.

The end result is a simple series of filters that allows the visitor to select they type of boat they have (e.g. a trailer boat), how they want to study (e.g. online, classroom, etc) and where they want to study. The website then displays the relevant courses available to them, and organised by level of competence, i.e. Foundation Level, Next Level, or Extra for Experts.

The visitor can then select their course, book and pay online.  All-in-all this is one deceptively complex website!
