Responsive Design or Collapse
Sep 15, 2017 by kiddResponsive design is a critical feature for websites today. In this blog, we'll explain the most important reasons why you need it for your site.
Accessibility
We'll start with users, since they'll (hopefully) turn into your customers one day. In 2017, you can assume that most of your users will be using mobile devices.
Responsive websites automatically adjust to whatever screen size they need to. According to this Search Engine Journal article, making your site responsive will improve its accessibility:
"Most developers and designers know by now that websites need to be compatible with desktop and mobile viewing. Even if you don’t have a professional designer to create your site, most website themes or designs are built “responsive,” meaning they automatically resize to be accessible and readable from a mobile device anyway. Even so, it’s important to remind everyone that websites must be responsive in design for improved accessibility."
Most marketers haven't really grasped that searches on mobile devices have surpassed those on desktops. But it would be exceedingly silly if you devoted all of your marketing efforts to something that isn't even used the majority of the time. You can avoid this by having a mobile-friendly responsive site.
SEO
Another reason to switch to responsive design is simple: Google said so. If you look at its Developers Page, you'll see that Google provides tons of information for web developers on the topic.
If you get a responsive site, your site ranking will probably get a boost. That means more organic traffic, more leads, and more sales. This, coupled with the improved accessibility, should be your main focus.
Simplicity
And finally, a small benefit of responsive websites is their simplicity. Rather than have two separate URLs -- one for your desktop site and one for your mobile one -- you just have one. You therefore don't have to plan and design for two sites. You just focus all of your efforts on one.
