Why The Word "Luxury" Is Sweeping The Domain Names Market
Nov 21, 2014 by PaulThe online world can be a fickle place at times. One day everyone wants to follow one particular trend, the next day they are interested in something else. If one is not paying attention, it is easy to get lost in what is or is not popular. Currently in domain names, the word "luxury" has become one of the hottest commodities out there.
Luxury At Any Price
Previously, virtually all business domains ended their address with ".com". This has become the signature by which most websites are still known. If they are doing any commercial business at all, it is .com. If the website is a non-profit the address might end in .org. However, now there are other types of endings that one may have at the end of a web address, and ".luxury" is one of the fastest selling.
Brand Name Companies Are Joining In
This trend is not isolated to some small start-ups and other brands looking to make a name for themselves. No, even name brand companies are out to join the party on this one. Check out this quote from nypost.com,
"Tiffany, Armani, Four Seasons, Bitcoin, Berkshire Hathaway and Hermès are among 1,250 companies that have signed on to dot-luxury (www.join.luxury) and will use the luxury domain extension instead of, or together with “.com.”
Yes, even Berkshire Hathaway, the company run by billionaire Warren Buffet is joining in this gold rush.
What This Means For You
This particular trend may mean little to you. Perhaps you own a company that does not deal in luxury goods, or perhaps you are happy with the domain names that you already possess. However, there is something to be learned from this particular mad scramble. That is that one must always be aware of the ongoing trends in the world of technology lest they let them slip away. Sometimes in this technology driven world it really is first come, first serve.
