One of the most common questions we're asked though is, "Do you build websites or just design them?". The answer is, yes we do both - and very well actually! But the question comes about because of the confusing terminology often used by web companies. So I thought we should try to clear up the confusion, although I suspect this is unlikely!  

Website design (or web design) is the process of creating the look and feel of a website. This is usually the job of a graphic designer (it certainly is at DW anyway). The skill of the designer is to follow a brief and use their creative flair to select the colours, images, font styles, heading styles, linked text styles, etc. So on our website, for example, our headings have been designed to look like this:

Website development (or web development) is the job of a web developer (i.e. a programmer).  They take the designs and convert all the various elements into computer code. In other words, they turn the designs into a website. They lock down the font styles, colours and so on so that when you add new content via the content management system (CMS), the website maintains it's overall look without a proliferation of different styles creeping in over time.
