When it comes to website design, small businesses actually have a significant advantage over corporations. While small businesses may not come close to big corporates in terms of their budget, they don't really need to. Since websites are scaled to the relative size of the business, small businesses are just fine with having a smaller-scale site.

Big corporates, on the other hand, are challenged to maintain a website with thousands and thousands of pages. They may have a lot of money to invest in web design, but this is still hard to manage. Even worse is that web design trends are always changing and evolving. Corporates have to keep updating their site to reflect this.

A recent Firmology article explains that small businesses are in a good position to update their web design as new trends develop:

This is really more of a potential advantage for small businesses than anything. It's true that small businesses have small-scale websites that are easier to maintain and update. But if they don't do this and let their website go outdated, then they're not taking advantage of the situation.

Small businesses have to capitalise on every advantage that presents itself. Therefore, they should focus on having an up-to-date web design that's easy to view on all platforms. For a relatively small price, small businesses can have a fast website that can be viewed on mobile devices and tablets. This forces corporations to keep up and invest heavily in web design. But while they'll struggle to update their website frequently, you'll have no problems making slight changes and incorporating new trends.
